Starting Stations in Unexpected Areas

Local radio ministries are starting up in some of the world’s most unlikely locations such as Auschwitz (also known as Osweicim) and Ustron, both in southern Poland. Auschwitz, once infamous for its Nazi concentration camps where an estimated 2.5 million people were sent to their deaths, is now a source of hope for thousands of listeners in the area. Broadcasts went on the air in June 1999.

The Auschwitz station is a milestone in Christian broadcasting. After so many years of communist oppression, it’s refreshing for us to be able to work with a local partner to provide an evangelical voice for Poland. It’s exciting that these stations are run entirely by Polish Christians.

Partner CCM has targeted three additional Polish cities for local stations, including the industrial center of Gliwice in southern Poland. Plans are being made to establish a satellite network to make gospel broadcasts available to cities across the entire country.
